Bush, E. Michael

Interest in landscape and nature photography began in 1980. I went professional with a business named ADVENTURE PHOTOS in 1988. Digital photography for me started in 2008.

Photography with a 35mm camera began in June of 1980. Most of those early pictures were "snapshots" of family and friends. Within a few months (and armed with new telephoto and wide-angle lens'), interest in landscape and nature photography arose.

In the summer of 1983, serious photography outside of the Minneapolis Minnesota area began. Trips to Minnesota's North Shore and Boundary Waters Canoe Area were made with camera-in-hand. Vacation travel now comprised of frequent stops and detours to catch those "special shots". After a few advanced photography classes, I went professional in 1988 with a business named ADVENTURE PHOTOS.

Since those early days, my travels have now encompassed many State and National Parks, Forests, Monuments and Wildlife Areas throughout the continental United States. My portfolio not only includes slot canyons, deserts, mountains, lakes, streams, flowers, birds and animals; but also boats, lighthouses, covered bridges, cityscapes, national monuments and memorials.

Along with my prime interest in landscape and nature photography, I have also done property and promotional photography, portraiture work, video and still photography of weddings, a Christmas card publication, fashion photography for Amanda Christine Designs in Minneapolis, and production set and promotional photography. Additionally, I have done landscape and property photography for the Hennepin County Conservation District and the city of Brooklyn Park.

I have competed in over 145 local, national and international juried competitions, two invitational shows and four solo exhibits. My works have won over 91 awards including 42 First Places, four Sweepstakes Ribbons, seven Awards of Excellence and one Masters Award. Some years ago my photographs were shown nationally on the World of Photography on the A&E cable TV network. In 1992 I was the guest artist on the cable TV program Accent on Art which aired on Richfield/Edina cable 33 and Twin Cities cable 6 and is archived with the Minnesota Historical Society. In 2006 I was interviewed by Northwest Cable TV 12 for inclusion in their news broadcast.

Regarding my photography viewpoint; the image you see is just what I saw through my viewfinder. Photographs are more than pictures; they are moments frozen in time, never to be replicated again. I try to capture the essence or “a feel” of what I am shooting. The experience I felt at the moment of shutter release is what I am sharing with you today.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope you enjoy my images.
