Made in Her Image: Jennifer Soriano
Robbin Gallery member-artist and painter Jennifer Soriano will exhibit sketches, figure drawings and paintings from her series, Made in Her Image, in a public exhibition at the Robbin Gallery. The exhibition opens Saturday, April 2, 2011 and runs through the month of April. All images are available for purchase.
Jennifer Soriano is fascinated by the human figure; its anatomical structure, its range of emotions, and its vast variety of texture and colors. Her current exhibit depicts the human figure -women, specifically- as a blend of Byzantine iconography and Art Nouveau. While iconography may bring to mind stiff, reserved, indifferent figures; combining it with Art Nouveau provides a softness and fluidity to her pieces. Jennifer notes that religious icons offer a means of seeing God through a stylized non-personal figure. Her work provides a glimpse of the celestial through personalized human figures -both secular and religious- while retaining the symbolic patterning of traditional iconography.
